MDC Modules for Classic Series
The Modular Design Construction used in many NAD products allows customers to upgrade their products and keep them current with the latest technologies. MDC is available in selected models in the Master Series, NAD Classic Home Theatre AVRs and NAD Classic amplifiers.
Classic Series has recently seen the introduction of digital processing into what would have normally been considered 2-channel products. The C 356BEE and C 375BEE allow for the addition of an MDC DAC that opens up the world of streaming music.
The C 356BEE comes
with one slot in the rear panel for the addition of an MDC DAC or a Phono Pre-amp
in the form of a PP375. For those owners that require
both of these additions, the sensible configuration is to install an MDC DAC
and use an outboard-connected PP2 or PP3 for the Phono functions. Recently,
NAD has added an additional C
The C 375BEE has two slots in the rear so you can comfortably install both an MDC DAC and the inboard PP375 module. The MDC DAC has a selector switch built into the rear panel that allows you to select the Phono module as required. One point to note is that the MDC Module was designed after the C 375BEE was already on the market. As a result early C 375BEE units do not have the required internal power in the slot to drive the MDC DAC. To avoid any mishaps with earlier units by trying to install the MDC DAC, the connector in the slot has also been changed. The C 375BEE was updated from serial number H08C375BEEG05870 onwards.
This change took place from August 2010 production and at this time,
the C 375BEE was also redesigned to make it less than 0.5W standby EU directive
compliant, so the new units are environmentally friendly too. While the units
prec eding this serial number will not have the ability to drive the MDC
DAC, they can still be used for the PP375. Therefore, the
preferred configuration
for adding a DAC to these units is to use the outboard NAD DAC 1 or NAD M51.
We apologise to anyone that is inconvenienced by this issue but this is an
example where technology can overtake the existing platforms. We are working
on adding the C 375BEE with a built in DAC to the line, with production expected
to begin late November.
The C 390DD Direct Digital DAC Amplifier has a high performance DAC built in as part of its design. The C 390DD comes with a USB module built in to allow you to stream music from your computer. There are two MDC Modules available for this model. The DD HDMI-1 is a repeater module that passes through the video without any processing and plays the high performance audio, while the DD AP-1 allows you to add Phono.
Modular Design Construction remains one of NAD's most important innovative solutions for technology obsolescence, giving customers numerous options and flexibility for years to come.
